Guides · Framework and differencesDirect answer: in the United States, prediction markets operate as event contract exchanges with federal regulation (the CFTC); outside the United States, the status varies by country and remains under debate in many places. In structure it is not a bookmaker — you trade against other users at market prices — but the risk to your money is the same kind: you can lose everything you put into a trade. This is not legal advice; it is the general map as of October 2026.
The reference platforms operate as designated contract markets (DCM) supervised by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the federal derivatives regulator. Their products are “event contracts”: financial instruments whose payout depends on whether a measurable event happens or not. That is the basis of their federal legality… and also of the debate: several states argue that part of that offering — above all the sports offering — is in practice betting without a state license, and the matter is being litigated. The picture, therefore, is “legal in the federal framework, disputed at the margins,” not a universal green light.
Each jurisdiction goes its own way: there are countries where these platforms are not even offered, countries with a gray zone, and countries where they are directly considered regulated gambling or prohibited. Availability on your screen does not equal authorization in your country. Before depositing on any platform, check its status for residents in your jurisdiction and its terms of use.
The differences are real in structure. They are not in what your account feels when you are wrong: a losing contract is worth $0 just as a lost bet is worth $0.
Crypto Predicción is not a trading platform: it does not execute orders in any market, does not accept deposits for trading, and does not hold anyone's funds. It publishes probabilistic signals for educational and entertainment purposes, with its public history, and offers a DEMO with virtual balances. The market platforms are mentioned only as a reference for prices and official results. If you trade on them, you do so on your own account, under their rules and your responsibility.
